What We Do

Family Advocacy

Family Advocates are committed to helping families navigate the system as each case goes through the investigation, prosecution, and healing process.  The Family Advocate provides families with information on their rights, and helps them successfully access resources to assist them during the crisis.  Clients receive information and referrals to community resources and assistance completing applications for Crime Victims Compensation.

Forensic Interviews

Successful prosecution of child abuse cases begins with a thorough investigation. At the core of that investigation, the ability to ensure the safety and protection of children often starts with the initial forensic interview.
Interviews are provided to children ages 2 to 17 by a trained forensic interviewer. Details are gathered in a neutral setting and a nonsuggestive manner.  The forensic interview process allows partner agencies to observe the interview as it is conducted. This allows for a collaborative team approach in receiving a child’s statement while protecting the integrity of the information gathered.

Counseling Services

Childrenz Haven provides a safe place for children and their families to begin the healing process after experiencing criminal child abuse or witnessing a violent crime. Our therapists receive training in evidence-based therapy models. Because children and adolescents respond in many different ways to traumatic events, it is important that therapists are prepared to provide the very best therapy that research and science have to offer, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a conjoint child and parent psychotherapy approach for children and adolescents who are experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties related to traumatic life events.

Multidisciplinary Team Coordination

Childrenz Haven coordinates with law enforcement, Child Protective Services / Social Services, and prosecution to initiate the beginning of a joint investigation. Our MDT Coordinator later facilitates the monthly Case Review Staffing for the Multidisciplinary Team to ensure that families receive all available resources and see that no child falls through the cracks.
